It all started when friendly well-known bartenders, sommeliers and wine critics told us how to quickly cope with poor health after the holidays. They remembered about strong beef broth, strong cocktails “Bloody Mary”, “Bulshot” with broth and spices, fried eggs, borscht and pickle, cocktail of sauerkraut juice with pepper and vodka. They also gave advice: if you drink wine, drink at least the same amount of water. If you drink hard liquor, drink a glass of water for each serving. And don’t forget to eat!

We carefully read all the comments and compiled a list of foods, drinks and dishes that, in the opinion of readers, are the most successful in coping with the consequences of the holidays. They were mentioned most often in the comments:

Vasily Mironov: Just hangover! For 250 g of white – 500 ml Essentuki 4 or 17. You can mix it and drink slowly. If you tie it abruptly, it will be bad.
Alexander Davydov: Having a hangover after drinking is a direct path to treatment. Well, if you have not calculated the strength in the fight against the green snake, in the morning the best remedy for removing the “consequences” is any pickle, cucumber, tomato, cabbage, and also kefirchik. And after that you can already have a hot broth or pickle.
EVGENII DJ: The principle of “not jumping off abruptly” is correct. Broths and pickles – this is only if you just went through the day before. If we are talking about a protracted marathon, you need to slide smoothly, otherwise the heart can jam.
I don’t really like the recipe with little white (there is always a risk of starting everything in a second circle) and it does not always climb, but at least drops of alcohol should always be kept close by. Motherwort is perfect. 15 drops are good at deceiving the body.
The next day, in most cases, will not be very good either. Weakness, at least nausea. But then you can already turn on the detox regime.
Vasily Mironov: Motherwort is good, but it is a very allergenic product, not everyone will come.
EVGENII DJ: The main goal is to deceive the body and lead it to the fact that it learns to exist without alcohol support without tin. The ideal option is to just oversleep the “I’m sober” and “my mom … hangover” stage. The main thing is not to go into the stage of “drinking again”. Give yourself any motivation: “How much money do I lose by buying alcohol?” “How much grief I bring to my loved ones”, “How much money I lose while I’m not working” … Whatever. And try to eat. Broth is ideal. There you should add a couple of drops of lemon juice, salt, pepper, sour cream, a little bread crumb. Eat vegetable soups. It is very useful to make even the simplest fried eggs.
Most likely, the next day you will feel unwell. But it will already be possible to work on the body.
Mineral water (“Narzan”, “borjomi” and “essentuki” to help). Water with sugar and lemon or pomegranate juice. You can do both in turn. The best option is to drink a little, but very often. Let’s say every 2 minutes – a couple of sips. An ideal recipe that pulls people out of the worst toxicosis of any origin.
Vitamins. It is very good if there are groups B. It is not bad to take ascorbic acid. Important! Break down the intake of vitamins B and C in several hours. But, if we have some water with lemon or pomegranate, vitamin C is no longer so important.
Be sure to try to eat as soon as something pops up. Start with broth, then any mashed potatoes: potato, vegetable, meat, fruit. Ideally, a banana plus an apple or pear with a drop of lemon juice. If there is nothing like that and there is no strength to do either – any baby food. Milk-kefir, yogurt, fermented baked milk. Our main goal is to keep the digestive tract from getting up. It will be more and more difficult to get it to work at home every day. After recovery, switch to normal food. And think about liver repair. For this, go to the doctor! All pills have contraindications.
EDITORIAL: We would like to say a little about the brine, which has been mentioned many times.
Now the Americans discovered the pickle and began to study it closely. According to their scientists, this is a new superfood, along with chia seeds, goji seeds and spirulina.
As weird as it sounds, there are several reasons to drink pickle (other than a hangover!). Here are just some of the situations where it will be beneficial, only after consulting a doctor, of course:
- Brine after intense training will help prevent muscle cramps in athletes (and in women during PMS, by the way!). It contains electrolytes (even more than most sports drinks!) To help keep you hydrated. Taking a saline solution before training can increase sweating and thus improve thermoregulation.
- Pickle as a remedy for heartburn has also proven itself well.
- Brine as a laxative for mild constipation relief.
- Pickle as a remedy for hiccups is the best option, according to some of our friends.
BONUS: Hasha (hashi) recipe
This dish is known throughout the Caucasus and Central Asia and the principle of its preparation is approximately the same everywhere. However, khash is served differently in different places. In Georgia, it is customary to put a small jug of milk on the table next to hashi, but this is not for everybody, but salt with garlic, good wine vinegar and bread are absolutely necessary! And take into account that the skeleton of children is greatly strengthened if they sometimes eat this kind of healing broth.
Khash can be frozen in portions and thawed if necessary – you must admit, this is very convenient for such a time-consuming dish. Our version of the recipe is just perfect for preparing khash for future use, since there are a lot of portions.
To prepare 10-12 servings you need:
- 1 large head of garlic
- 1 kg beef tripe
- 4 kg beef legs (hooves), you can also from pork legs
- Thoroughly rinse the beef legs and tripe several times, scrape and rub with a knife until a mirror shine. This is a long process and can take up to 2 hours.
- Fill the scar with water so that it covers it, bring to a boil, drain and pour fresh water, and so on 3 times.
- Put the prepared ingredients in a large saucepan with a volume of at least 15 liters, cover with cold water, bring to a boil, remove the foam, then reduce the heat so that the water gurgles slightly.
- Cook for 6–8 hours – your job is to remove the foam and monitor the process; the water should never boil violently.
- When the water boils half of the original volume, check if the meat is easily separated from the bones, if the pieces of the tripe are cooked. If not, cook some more. Remove the finished meat from the broth, remove from the bones and disassemble into small pieces.
- Peel the garlic, mix thoroughly in a mortar with salt, pour the hashi into large plates and lay out the meat and tripe. Serve with crushed garlic.
